What is SEO?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a vital part of your online marketing strategy,
especially if your intention is to do ecommerce or brand promotion. A correctly
optimized webpage can bring a steady flow of potential customers to your website,
but a poorly optimized webpage will not be found by those same potential customers.
There are three main components of SEO: keyword density, submission to search engines
and links to your site. We will try to give plain English explanations of each in
this series of articles.
Keyword density:
Keywords are the words a potential customer would type into the Google search box.
These keyword’s, are often accompanied by a city or metropolitan area for that term.
An example would be that a potential customer would type ‘pizza in Grand Rapids
mi’, to find a pizza shop in the Grand Rapids area. The keywords in your website
pages should target your expected customer base. Consider the following phrase:
‘Our pizza sauce is a great pizza sauce, known by pizza sauce lovers everywhere.’
While the above sentence may have good keyword density, it is horrible grammar and
may convince potential customers to click away from your website. There is a fine
line between keyword density and well written ad copy. Don’t get caught on the wrong
side of that line.
